Hi there! Thanks for dropping by. This page
outlines Sriranjani's site policies.
To begin with, this site is a labour of love. It is all about
music, with a not-so-subtle slant towards classical
(in the sense of Karnatic) music.
The site, however, encourages music in all its forms. We welcome
users to contribute to the site, and get others to use to the
site as well.
We respect copyright laws, and this site is not about distributing
illegal music. We do,however, believe that music needs to be listened to,
and therefore we will use snippets of music to illustrate a point, or
to demonstrate a raga. We will use the MP3 format for music files, as
the RealServer is beyond our budget (anyone out there with a
RealServer to spare...?)
Information Sources
We gratefully acknowledge several sites on the Internet from whom
we have depended on for information, ideas, and even parts of the content available
here--when you're standing on the shoulders of giants, it's not difficult to look tall...!
I would like to mention a few sites: the excellent site on Indian classical music
of Ravi Boppe which was the
only place where I could get info on both Karnatic and Hindustani music,
Harry S. Anchan's prolific output,
and the first of its kind, Kishor's
Raga Kairali.
The sources of information on the Karnatic ragas are two books:
An Encyclopedia of South Indian Music by Dr. Sambamurty, and
Dakshinendyan Sangeetham by Mr. Raveendranath. Hindustani-Karnatic
raga equivalence information has come from the articles by
Krishna Kunchithapadam and Sundar Gopalakrishnan available at
Ravi Boppe's site mentioned above.
As the architect, designer, programmer and data-entry operator of this
site, I do acknowledge the possibility of error. Please point
out errors if you find them (for, as they say, the greater common good...!).
